DSC02311.JPG - Built using caliche (cuh-lee-chee), a concrete-like mix of sand, clay and limestone, it took 3000 tons to build the Great House. Caliche mud was piled in successive courses to form walls four feet thick at the base, tapering toward the top. Nowadays, the roof and walls of the main building provide shelter for several species of small birds.
