| Peulla is a resort-cum-international-border-crossing rolled into one. To cross from Chile (Puerto Montt) to Argentina (Bariloche) takes a full day's travel through several stages (alternating between buses and boats - Bus, Boat, Bus, Boat & Bus, Boat, Bus). It is obviously meant as a recreational crossing because of the scenery on both sides of the border. While we had no plans to cross into Argentina, we did undertake the trip half-way till Peulla. On the way, we stopped briefly to enjoy Petrohue Falls right below Volcan Osorno (2660m).
The route lies in the Parque Nacional Vicente Perez Rosales (quite a mouthful) including the 2 hour boat ride through Lagos Todos Los Santos (All Saints Lake). The ride offered splendid mountain scenery surrounding a beautiful lake. Recreation options abound in Peulla. One can go hiking, horseriding, fishing, enjoy a Canopy ride or a 4x4 excursion. However, our time was limited to a couple of hours as we had to return back to Puerto Varas. We chose the novel new adventure called Canopy. We returned back on the boat with passengers who had crossed into Chile from Argentina and then on the bus back to Puerto Varas. |
