Buddhist monastic shrine of Kwabahal, also known as "Hiranya Varna Mahavihar" is enlisted as a World Heritage Site for its artistic splendour, lively religious rituals and its cultural significance. It is believed to have been established in 1045-1048 AD by the ruler of the time, King Bhaskar Dev Varma. The entry is flanked by two stone elephants and the inner courtyard has a walkway round three sides.
